Welcome to iTunes U Public Site Manager

iTunes U puts the power of the iTunes Store to work for K-12 school districts, universities, colleges and other educational organizations, so users can easily search, download, and play education content just like they do with music, movies, and TV shows. iTunes U Public Site Manager is designed as a service for institutions to manage a broad range of public audio, video, PDF, and ePub content, and to make it available quickly and easily to all users. Users can access educational content, including courses*, lectures and interviews, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Users can browse content and download it to their computers, Mac or PC, and wireless devices such as iPhone and iPad regardless of their location. They can then listen to and view that content on their computers or on their wireless devices for listening or viewing on the go.

*Users can only view courses on an iOS device using the iTunes U app.

iTunes uses the following types of pages to display your content:

• A provider page. The provider page is your top-level, or main page welcoming your users to your site. Your provider page automatically:

  • Displays lists of your top content (courses and collections)

  • Displays all the courses, collections, or items featured in the specific feature box in a See All page (for example, all courses, what’s new, top downloads)

  • Displays a standard set of links allowing users to share your content in Facebook, Twitter, and so on

  • Generates a categories list linking to your categorized content and providing users a subject-based navigation method for discovering your content

  While administering your site in iTunes U Public Site Manager, you can configure your provider page, preview your provider page changes, and view and compare your live, published provider page in the iTunes Store.

• Collection and course pages.

  Collection pages contain the audio, video, PDF, or ePub content files that you make available to your users. iTunes U Public Site Manager creates and populates collection page information based on RSS feeds hosted on your servers or on Apple’s servers. Whether your collection page is associated with a provider-hosted or Apple-hosted feed, the RSS feed is the single source of data for your collection page. While administering your site in iTunes U Public Site Manager, you can configure a collection page, preview collection page changes, and view and compare the live, published collection page in the iTunes Store.

  Course pages include info (including an overview, instructor profile, and outline), posts (including assignments), and materials (for example, audio and video files). Using iTunes U Course Manager, instructors can create and prepare content for a course by recording lectures, developing assignments, creating videos and podcasts, uploading Keynote presentations or other documents and handouts, and much more. Students can then access the course content (for example, lectures, books, documents, apps, web links, and other materials) through the iTunes U app on their iOS devices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

• Category pages. Category pages, linked from your provider page, display groupings of collections you associated with a particular predefined category. You can assign predefined categories to your site’s items to help iTunes Store users browse content of interest to them within your site.

  While administering your site in iTunes U Public Site Manager, you can configure a category page, preview category page changes, and view and compare the live, published category page in the iTunes Store.

• Tag pages. Tag pages, linked from your provider page, display groupings of collections you tagged with a particular tag. You can tag your site’s collections to help iTunes Store users browse similar content within your site.

  While administering your site in iTunes U Public Site Manager, you can configure a tag page, preview tag page changes, and view and compare the live, published tag page in the iTunes Store.

• See All pages. See All pages, linked from your provider page, automatically display all the collections, courses, or items featured in a specific feature box or all the collections in your Top Collections list.

  While administering your site in iTunes U Public Site Manager, you can preview a See All page and view and compare a live, published See All page in the iTunes Store.
