Specifying an initial category and subcategory
If you are hosting content on Apple servers, you can use the feed editor to assign an initial category and subcategory for new items added to a collection in your site.
Categorizing content provides users a subject-based navigation method for discovering your content. iTunes U Public Site Manager displays groupings of collections you associated with a particular predefined category in a category page.
To specify an initial category and subcategory for new items added to a collection:
Click Collections at the top of iTunes U Public Site Manager.
Click Apple Hosted in the Feed column for the collection where you want to specify an initial category and subcategory.
As a contributor, click Edit Feed in the Title column for the collection where you want to specify an initial category and subcategory.
Click Items.
Choose a category and subcategory from the “Initial Category for New Content” pop-up menus.
While multiple categories can apply to your content, select the most relevant category. If the content of your item does not match any of the categories, you should not select a category.
You can remove the initial category at any time by selecting No Category / No Subcategory from the pop-up menus. Removing an initial category does not affect any items already assigned a category in the collection. If you move an item into a collection with an initial category setting, the item only inherits the initial category if it was uncategorized. If the item was previously categorized, iTunes U Public Site Manager does not change the existing category association.
For information on categorizing items within a provider-hosted feed, see “Creating a feed.”
