About category pages

Category pages, linked from your provider page, display groupings of collections associated with a particular predefined category. You can assign predefined categories to your site’s items to help iTunes Store users browse content of interest to them within your site. You can categorize content by subject, thus providing users a subject-based navigation method for discovering content.

In addition to features to make your pages appear familiar to users and to provide a custom featured order, the configurable category page also provides you with a tool to see how iTunes U Public Site Manager displays your content for iTunes and iPad and iPhone devices: Availability Guide. For each category page interface element, the Availability Guide indicates whether or not the element is available for iTunes, iPad, and iPhone. If an element is not available on a device, iTunes U Public Site Manager displays a gray device name in the Availability Guide.

iTunes U Public Site Manager can always display two versions of your site: the currently staged, work-in-progress version and the live, published version. Using the configurable category page menu items you can view both versions:

This section describes how to categorize your content and lists iTunes U category and subcategory codes and associated names. In addition, this section explains how to customize your category page, including how to upload artwork.
